Week 2

CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM + BLACK AMERICAN REFORMS

Identifying the many narratives around the pipelines to prison and the people who are banning together to combat them. We’ll also delve into the history of the American criminal justice system and its dynamics  as it pertains to Black communities. Panelists and attendees discuss the level of effectiveness of established systems, current reforms to prevent Black Americans from entering the “prison pipeline”. Last, we explore how to create change from within the systems or practical recommendations to develop completely new systems that work for our communities. 

BLACK ACTIVISM

Will the revolution be televised or live streamed? Let’s talk about Black activism: from slave rebellions to the Black Panther Movement, Stonewall to the Detroit Race Riots, and other forms of Black activism in the new digital age. Now, more than ever, we can leverage a number of tools for civic engagement and gain insight from our history of activism.
